Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall/Winter 2013 womenswear collection, The Modern Prep, celebrates the best of fall activities – from cheering on the football team, to homecoming bonfires and autumn strolls across college campuses. As the air becomes crisp, the womenswear collection invites you to layer up in the season’s best mix of patterns, knits and rich color tones. It’s all about getting back in touch with traditional prep school roots, kicked up a notch with modern twists in fabric and silhouette.
First on the agenda we cheer for our favorite team in Spectator, a sporty-prep fashion group. Feminine florals, foulards and plaids are essential on sweaters, knits, blouses and jackets. The statement look is printed five-pocket pants in denim or satin. Cropped hemlines leave ankles exposed for sports in the sun; for chillier races by the water, lightweight knit and quilted blazers can team up with classic V-neck sweaters. The opulent color palette is filled with rich tones in pumpkin, ketchup, tobacco brown and forest green, complemented by lots of camouflage prints. Short peacoats in bright colors stand out from the crowd and keep you warm.
As we settle into the season and collegiate life, In The Stacks celebrates the rustic, preppy, Ivy League charm of campuses and libraries. The fashion group offers a fresh take on Tommy Hilfiger’s classic red, white and blue color palette, using deeper autumn tones such as midnight blue and tawny port. Stripes reappear on dresses, peacoats, sweaters and blazers to tie the whole ensemble together. And of course there’s no shortage of foulards and plaids, with colorful accent pops in fuchsia. The ultimate look on campus is the layered shirt statement, combining Jackie O crew-neck cardigans and printed woven blouses. Waxy coatings give denim a leather-like look, while boucle skirts and quilted jackets all embrace and encourage mixing textures.
Finally, as gusty winter winds cool the air, the Bonfire fashion group is all about layering textures to warm up by the fire. Blazers combine patchwork and leather, plus there’s no shortage of houndstooth from head to toe. Paired with skinny pants, chunky scarves and down quilted jackets, you’ll be sure to keep warm. The Bonfire statement look focuses on sweaters, which range from argyle and angora to mohair. A natural color palette combines neutral camel, seedpearl, oyster gray and otter, with accents of ponderosa pine green, ocean turquoise and golden yellow. Prints embrace dapper checks, stripes and foulards.
From collegiate campuses and sports games to invigorating outdoor adventures, Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall/Winter 2013 menswear collection – The Modern Prep – offers fresh interpretations of classic looks. Traditional cuts and styles get shaken up through modern fabrics, patterns and silhouettes. Rich colors mix with unexpected pops, channeling sophistication with a twist for today’s prepped gentlemen.
First, we head In The Stacks for clothing inspired by classic Ivy League style, from rustic libraries to campus picnics. The all-American combination of red, white and blue is key – with complementary accents in bright yolk yellow, golden orange and evergreen. Button-down shirts feature micro-patterns, in miniscule prints and tiny woven textures that pop when layered. Modern argyles, subtle foulards, blackwatch checks and stripes appear in full force. Embracing the true campus lifestyle, the key piece is the rugby shirt – available in 10 unexpected color combinations. They can be layered all season long with renewed chinos, featuring surprising details like chambray rolled hems, funky belt loops and small pockets in unexpected places.
When autumn sporting events kick off, the Spectator fashion group celebrates the season’s crisp air and abundance of outdoor activities. These pieces embrace texture, from corduroys to herringbone, quilting and chunky wool. At the regatta or football field, spectators can keep warm in lightweight down jackets and vests, perfectly designed for fall temperatures. Color tones reflect the season, mixing earthy browns, taupes and greens with natural accents of ochre and orange. Striped chunky knit sweaters and heavy twill blazers are perfect for layering with gilets that reinvent diamond and onion-shaped quilting patterns.
Finally, as wintry winds blow in, warm up Around the Bonfire – a fashion group that’s all about a refreshing update to monochromatic styles. Shades of blue can be layered on thick with different patterns, textures and prints. Be it pullover sweaters, quilted jackets or chunky woolen scarves, a rich mix of fabrics make for interesting combinations in various shades of blue, white and grey. Accents in mustard yellow add an unexpected spark. Gather round the campfire wearing button-down shirts in micro-pattern prints. Meanwhile, dressy flannel shirts can be paired with slim-fit wool pants, novelty prints and even a suit.
